The tip of the iceberg in modern general practice

Let's address the iceberg in the room.... looking at patient/media perceptions vs reality. Sometimes you only see certain things taking place, but this doesn't meant that there isn't a lot of work going on behind the scenes as well.

Modern GP surgeries are busier than ever, with so much happening behind the scenes that patients don’t always see. From managing hospital referrals to reviewing test results, handling prescriptions, and coordinating care for those with complex needs, there's a whole team working to keep things running smoothly.

You might not always see a GP, but that’s because highly trained professionals like nurse practitioners, paramedics, pharmacists, physician associates, etc.... are now part of teams, helping ensure you get the right care, from the right person, at the right time.

And please remember receptionists / care navigators are doing their job by following relevant patient pathways from doctors as part of triage processes. Surgeries across #cumbria continue to report more and more issues of aggressive behaviour from patients towards their front facing staff which is unacceptable.

GP receptionists are the heart of the practice, working hard to help everyone—but abuse is driving them away. Please be kind to help staff retention, or soon there won’t be anyone left to help. We know this does work both ways, so please use relevant procedures if required.

Please help us help you, remember there is lots going on behind the scenes as well in these busy organisations and it costs nothing to be kind.
