Primary Care Services North Cumbria launch Cervical Screening information Video to encourage an increase in uptake

Those being invited for cervical screening in North Cumbria are being encouraged to take up the opportunity to attend their appointment with a new explainer video featuring local nurses.

The 3-minute video was created by Primary Care Services North Cumbria in collaboration with North Cumbria GP practice nurses to help highlight the importance of cervical screening, as well as explain the appointment process.

Sam Gargett, Project Manager for Primary Care Services North Cumbria said: “We know this will be a useful resource for local teams to support with an uptake of these vital screening appointments.

"We hope the video will help provide some background on the appointment process whilst also reminding people that if they have received an invitation but not yet attended they can still book in by contacting their practice. As the nurses involved in filming highlight, it is not a test for cancer but helps to detect and prevent cancer before it develops by identifying any abnormal cells before they become cancerous.

"We are very appreciative to the nurses involved in filming as we know how busy general practice teams are”

Joel Vilchez, Cancer Engagement Lead from Primary Care Services North Cumbria said: “We know that early detection can dramatically improve chances of successful treatment so these screening appointments are important.

“The video initiative is excellent from a local perspective as part of my Northern Cancer Alliance funded role includes working towards an increase in the uptake of cervical screening appointments so this video is great way to get the message out and hopefully encourage those invited to attend”
